The Dedicated Staff of Good Shepherd By the Lake

Pastor Tom Konz,
Vacancy Pastor

Having retired about six and half years ago, Pastor Tom is privileged to now serve the members of Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church as their vacancy pastor. Pastor Tom was ordained in 1986 after graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. All of his pastoral ministry was served in Texas, where he grew up. This is his second time to live in Wisconsin, having formerly worked in nursing home administration in Racine. There he met and married his wife Cheryl, a Lutheran elementary school teacher and started their family of two daughters and one son. Prior to Good Shepherd By the Lake, Pastor Tom served a vacancy at Calvary Lutheran Chapel on the UW campus and has been a substitute preacher at several area churches. 

Mary Sommers, Church Organist

Mary has been part of the music ministry at Good Shepherd by the Lake since its very beginning in 1976. She has blessed the congregation playing the hymns and liturgy for our worship services and by providing and organizing special music to enhance our worship experience. Mary is currently directing the choir as well as they sing songs of God’s amazing grace and mercy in Jesus. We are truly thankful for her many years of dedicated service to the Lord and our congregation. 

Jenna Gaastra, Church Secretary

Jenna is joining the Good Shepherd By the Lake Church staff after many years in sales in the animal health industry. She’s excited to be a helpful and welcoming presence in the church office. When Jenna’s not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors and gardening. Stop in the office and say ‘hello’! 

Carol Christopher, Church Custodian

We all like to worship in a place that is both clean and inviting. Carol makes that possible for us at Good Shepherd by the Lake in her role as our church custodian. Her love for the Lord and for her church is expressed in great care she provides for our church campus.
